Well Drilling Services

For most people in Northern Idaho, a private water well is the only water supply their property will ever have. When something goes wrong with it, or when one needs to be built from scratch, the contractor you choose determines whether the project goes smoothly or becomes a source of cost overruns, delays, and disruption.

Well drilling services include the installation, modification, rehabilitation, inspection, and lawful closure of groundwater wells for residential, agricultural, commercial, and geothermal use. In Northern Idaho, where most rural properties depend entirely on private wells, these services are not optional infrastructure — they are the foundation of water access, property value, and regulatory compliance.

Trident Drilling LLC is a licensed, veteran-owned well drilling contractor based in Coeur d’Alene. The company serves Kootenai, Bonner, Benewah, and Shoshone counties and manages the full lifecycle of groundwater well projects, including Idaho Department of Water Resources permitting and final well log documentation.

The services below represent the complete scope of Trident Drilling’s licensed groundwater work in Northern Idaho.

Not Sure Where to Start?

Emergency Water

When a well fails unexpectedly, temporary water delivery can maintain essential household or agricultural operations while permanent repairs or drilling are scheduled.

Best for: Immediate water supply needs during active repair or drilling projects.

Get Emergency Water

Commercial Well Drilling

Commercial projects require higher-capacity wells, documented gallons-per-minute output, and coordination with lenders, engineers, and permitting authorities. Trident supports multi-well planning and IDWR compliance for commercial and municipal-scale projects.

Best for: Developers, project managers, and businesses requiring an independent groundwater supply.

Schedule New Well Drilling

Water Well Inspections

Written well inspection reports document borehole condition, static water level, production rate, and compliance status. Reports are formatted for lenders, title companies, and real estate transactions.

Best for: Buyers, lenders, real estate agents, and investors requiring documented well condition prior to closing.

Agricultural and Irrigation Wells

High-volume wells for farms, ranches, orchards, and irrigated land must align with water rights regulations, recharge rates, and seasonal operational windows. Trident ensures permitted capacity matches production needs.

Best for: Agricultural operators requiring dependable, permitted, high-volume water access.

Start A Site Evaluation

Well Abandonment (Sealing)

Idaho law requires unused or condemned wells to be properly sealed to prevent groundwater contamination. Trident manages IDWR permitting, approved grouting procedures, and final closure documentation.

Best for: Property owners, developers, and real estate professionals handling inactive or non-compliant wells.

New Well Drilling

Drilling a first-time well on undeveloped land requires site evaluation, geological review, IDWR permitting, borehole drilling, casing installation, and written well log documentation. Trident manages permit coordination so projects do not stall during regulatory review.

Best for: Undeveloped land, new construction, and properties requiring a permitted private water supply.

Geothermal Drilling

Vertical borehole installation for ground-source heating and cooling systems. These projects rely on precise geological drilling methods and coordination with HVAC system design.

Best for: Property owners integrating geothermal heating and cooling into new builds or retrofits.

Well Deepening

When drought conditions or aquifer shifts reduce yield, extending an existing borehole to a deeper water-bearing zone may restore capacity. Trident reviews existing well logs and regional geological data before recommending deepening.

Best for: Property owners experiencing reduced water production due to seasonal or long-term groundwater changes.

Residential Well Drilling

Installation or replacement of private water wells serving homes and small residential properties. Projects typically involve geological review, borehole drilling, casing placement, and documented production testing.

Best for: Homeowners replacing failed or aging wells or installing a permitted residential water source.

Well Rehabilitation and Repair

Rehabilitation addresses declining output, pressure loss, mineral buildup, and structural well issues. In many cases, cleaning or structural correction restores performance without requiring full replacement.

Best for: Wells showing gradual decline or mechanical issues where replacement has not yet been confirmed as necessary.

What to Know About Drilling in Northern Idaho

Regional geology. Many wells in Kootenai County access the Spokane Valley–Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer, while Bonner and Shoshone counties often involve deeper or harder formations. Site-specific evaluation is required before setting expectations.

Water rights. Idaho follows the prior appropriation doctrine. Water rights are established through beneficial use and must comply with IDWR permitting requirements.

Scheduling. Drilling capacity is limited regionally. Early consultation is recommended for projects tied to construction or agricultural timelines.

Pump systems. Trident Drilling does not install or replace pumps. Referrals to pump contractors are available upon request.
